Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll hear…
▶️ [2:00] So, I made the decision to go out on my own. I took a leap of faith and started my own consulting business and that was nine years ago. And my business has grown and changed and shifted, and I've learned a lot along the way. And in the last couple of years, I've started to recognize as we've gone through the pandemic that there are many people that are starting to choose entrepreneurship and the pandemic has made people reflect on their work life and they're starting their own businesses.
▶️ [4:39] So it's really becoming self aware of what is happening and being conscious about the thoughts that you're choosing. And as you say, what you're allowing into your brain. One of the most powerful things you can do is start your day in the right way. It is very common for people to get up and get sucked into the busyness of life. You might be scrolling your phone. You might be having a conversation with someone consuming news that goes right into you. It is the first thing that you hear and you're focusing on in the morning and that sets your energy and your tone for the day.
▶️ [7:08] So it started about a year ago, a little more than a year ago. And I had shared a post on LinkedIn saying that it was my nine year anniversary of being in business. And I was flooded with messages from people who were saying, what an accomplishment that was and how much that was inspiring. And I realized, we forget what we've accomplished ourselves when we're living our lives sometimes. And that there's people at the very beginning of that journey.
▶️ [10:44] When you become an entrepreneur, especially in the early stages, you are everything. And that's a huge shift. It's a skillset, right? There's skills that you have to develop. What do you think are the main skill sets that entrepreneurs need to develop in the earliest stages of building their own business coming as coming away from corporate or from being an employee?
▶️ [13:35] If you're talking about strategy specifically, the other thing I wanted to mention on video is you need to take action as well. So you need their strategy, but you can't spend all your time planning, which videos you're gonna make and trying to make it all perfect. And that's usually a sign of your fear that's holding you back. And a lot of people are uncomfortable. Creating video but the reality is you just need to start practicing.
▶️ [15:54] And there are so many skills that you will need to learn as an entrepreneur that are gonna feel like that. So if you're someone who's used to being good at things right away, or you get really frustrated when you're learning something and you're not good at it right away, that's an area to work on as an entrepreneur, because there are so many of those situations and it's continually coming up and you just need to be open to learning and being in a growth mindset.
▶️ [18:44] And it just creates a personal touch to the proposal. If I'm giving feedback to a vendor on a website design, as an example, I'll record my feedback. If I am reaching out to somebody I haven't spoken to in a while as a touch base, I'll do a short video to send to them. I use it in so many different ways. And the reason I think it's so effective is it's efficient, number one, it's a lot more efficient than typing to grab a two or three minute video, but it creates a personal touchpoint in a way that people aren't used to receiving anymore, because so much is automated and emails and texts.
